What's an e-mail list and why should I care?

First.  Simple answer is that an e-mail list is a roster of people who have asked you to keep them informed of happenings at your establishment.

Folks who have already bought from you and want to buy from you again.  People who want, need and deserve a reason to continue to be your customer.

The ones you've already paid for and need to come back.

The ones who have given you permission, nae, have jumped through hoops to have you tell them of special offers and developments within your business. 

Permission-based, targeted and focused.  Sound like anything you've been doing with circulars and penny-savers?  Do they, in exchange for your money, give you motivated, proven, familiar buyers?

I thought not.

You don't need me to start an e-mail list for you.  You can pay $20 per month and put the code into your website yourself.  

Then what?

Having an e-mail list doesn't do you any good unless you can effectively craft a campaign that gets you results.

First, you need to have your e-mail opened.  A subject line that will stand out and make the reader think 'Hey, I need to see that'.  

Then you need to give a compelling offer to act in the body of your e-mail.

With the number of e-mails everyone gets these days, the subject line is crucial. 

Remember, these e-mails are going to your customers.  They've jumped through hoops to get your message.

They've asked for this information. 

They won't be suprised to see an e-mail from you but they will judge whether or not to open it by curiosity that the subject line provokes. 

More curiosity equals better odds of taking that initial action to click.  A click equals exposure.  Exposure is what you need.  Exposure equals sales.
